This free crochet pansy amigurumi pattern uses the following special stitch tutorials:
- Single Crochet (YU/YO Method)
- Invisible Decrease
- Joining Rounds
- Changing Colors Mid-Round
This pattern is worked in the round, with each round joined at the end with a slip stitch. Unless otherwise instructed, the first stitch of your next round will always be worked into the same stitch as your joining slip stitch has been worked into.
Be sure to always keep the ‘right side’ of your stitches facing outwards as you work. The right side is the front side of the stitch that is facing you as you are completing each stitch.
Pattern Instructions | Free Crochet Pansy Amigurumi
Crochet Pansy Front Petals:
With yarn A (light purple), chain 2.
Rnd 1: 6sc into 2nd ch from hook, sl st into 1st sc to join (6).
Do not fasten off yarn A. Secure your working loop with a stitch marker and leave yarn A connected and on standby for now.
Join yarn B (dark purple) by inserting your hook into the same stitch as you’ve just slip stitch into with yarn A. Yarn over yarn B, then pull through and chain 1.
Round 2 will begin in the same stitch as where you’ve just joined and will be worked only partially around round 1. Be sure to turn your work at the end of round 2.
Rnd 2: 1sc into each of next 3 sts, ch 1, turn (3).
Rnd 3: (1sc, 2dc) into next st, 1sc into next st, (2dc, 1sc) into next stitch, sl st into same stitch, turn (8).
Fasten off yarn B and weave in both tails.

Remove your stitch marker from the active loop of yarn A from round 1 and reinsert your hook.
After turning your work at the end of round 3, you should now be working in the same direction as you were after round 1.
Continuing directly from where you left off with yarn A in round 1, you will be working round 4 across the top of round 3 and back down to round 1 on the other side.
In other words, your first stitch in round 4 will be worked into the last single crochet stitch of round 3.
Rnd 4: ch 2, sk sl st, (1sc, 1dc) into next st, 2dc into each of next 2 sts, ch 1, sl st into next st, ch 1, 2dc into each of next 2 sts, (1dc, 1sc) into next st, ch 2, sl st into 3rd st of rnd 1 (20).

Crochet Pansy Middle Petals:
Rnd 2: 1sc into each of next 2 sts, ch 1, turn (2).
Rnd 3: (1sc, 1dc) into next st, (1dc, 1sc) into next stitch, sl st into same stitch, turn (5).
Fasten off yarn B and weave in both tails.
Join yarn B (dark purple) once more, into the fourth stitch in round 1, and repeat rounds 2 and 3 on the opposite side from your first petal.
The middle petals should be separate by one stitch on each side and sit directly opposite each other on either side of round 1.

Remove your stitch marker from the active loop of yarn A from round 1 and reinsert your hook.
After turning your work at the end of round 3, you should now be working in the same direction as you were after round 1.
Continuing directly from where you left off with yarn A in round 1, you will be working round 4 across the top of round 3 on the first petal and back down to round 1 on the other side, then repeating once more over the second petal.
In other words, your first stitch in round 4 will be worked into the last single crochet stitch of round 3 of the first petal. Round 4 will end in the last stitch of round 1.
Rnd 4: *ch 2, sk sl st, (1sc, 1dc) into next st, 2dc into each of next 2 sts, (1dc, 1sc) into next st, ch 2* sl st into 2nd st of rnd 1, sl st into next 2 sts of rnd 1, rep from * to * 1 time, sl st into 5th st of rnd 1, sl st into next st of rnd 1 (29).
Fasten off yarn A and weave in any remaining tails. Set aside for now.

Crochet Pansy Back Petals:
Similar to real pansies, this crochet pansy pattern can be made in two different color styles, as seen below.
To have the back petals of your pansy match the outer color of the front petals, as seen on the right, work the back petals in yarn A.
Likewise, to have the back petals of your pansy match the inner color of the front petals, as seen on the left, use yarn B for the back petals.

With yarn A (light purple) or yarn B (dark purple), chain 2.
Rnd 1: 6sc into 2nd ch from hook, sl st into 1st sc to join, ch 1 (6).
Rnd 2: 1sc into each of next 2 sts, ch 1, turn (2).
Rnd 3: (1sc, 1dc) into next st, (1dc, 1sc) into next st, sl st into same st, turn (5).
Rnd 4: ch 2, sk sl st, (1sc, 1dc) into next st, 2dc into each of next 2 sts, (1dc, 1sc) into next st, ch 2, sl st into last st of rnd 2 (13).
Fasten off your chosen yarn and weave in all tails. Repeat rounds 1 to 4, one more time, for a total of two back petals.

Crochet Pansy Leaf:
With yarn C (green), chain 8.
Rnd 1: 1dc into 3rd ch from hook, 2tr into next st, 1dc into next st, 1hdc into next st, 1sc into next st, sl st into next st, ch 1, working into other side of ch sts, sl st into next st, 1sc into next st, 1hdc into next st, 1dc into next st, 2tr into next st, 1dc into next st, ch 2, sl st into same st as last dc (20).
When working round 2, be sure to work into the first 2 chains from the beginning of round 1 (the last 2 chains of your starting chain of 8), as well as the last 2 chains at the end of round 1.
In other words, these chains count as stitches to be worked into and should not be skipped over.
Rnd 2: [sl st into next st, (sl st, ch 1, 1sc, ch 1, sl st) into next st] 3 times, sl st into each of next 3 sts, ch 1, sl st into each of next 3 sts, [(sl st, ch 1, 1sc, ch 1, sl st) into next st, sl st into next st] 3 times (43).
Fasten off yarn C and weave in tails. Set aside for now.
Repeat rounds 1 and 2, one more time, for a total of two leaves.

Crochet Pansy Stem – Rounds 1 to 3:
Before beginning, cut two short strands (~6 inches each) of yarn C (green) and set aside for later.
Then, with yarn C (green), chain 2.
Rnd 1: 10hdc into 2nd ch from hook, do not join (10).
Fo best results, try working into the back bar, not the back loop, of each chain stitch during in round 2.
Rnd 2: [sl st into FLO of next st of rnd 1, ch 7, sl st into 2nd ch from hook, 1sc into next st, 1hdc into each of next 3 sts, 1sc into next st, sl st into FLO of next st of rnd 1] 5 times, ch 1 (40).
Round 3 will be worked into the back loops only from round 1 that were omitted during round 2. If desired, you may also work into the third loop on the back of each half double crochet, as well.
Rnd 3: 1sc into BLO of each st from rnd 1 around, sl st into 1st st to join, ch 1 (10).
Secure your working loop with a stitch marker and follow the instructions for sewing the petals together before continuing to round 4 of the crochet pansy stem.

Sewing Petals Together:
Retrieve all of your crochet pansy petals that you’ve set aside earlier.
We will now be sewing all of the petals together into a single flower and attaching them onto the top of the stem.
At the same time, we will also be adding a yellow center onto the front of the flower, as well.
To begin, cut a long, doubled length of yarn D (yellow) and thread it through your needle.
Leaving some beginning tail for sewing, pass your doubled yarn, from back to front, beneath both loops of any stitch from round 1 of your front petals.
Then, insert your needle, from front to back, into the center ring of your front petals and pull through.
Continuing with the same yarn, repeat these steps around each stitch of round 1 of your front petals.

You should now have a yellow star-like embroidery over top of the center of your front petals, with the needle-end of your yarn exiting from the center ring on the back side of the petals.
Next, insert your needle, from front to back, through the center ring of the middle petals.
Then, insert your needle in the same manner through the center ring of the each of the two back petals, then through the starting ring of the stem, as well.
Take care to insert your needle through the center of each piece so that the front side is facing forward, and each piece is rotated to your liking.
For best results, the front petals should be facing downwards and the middle petals should point outwards to the left and right.
Likewise, the back petals should be turned upwards, overlapping but rotated slightly outwards away from each other, and the leaves from the stem should be rotated to have each leaf roughly between two petals.
Additionally, be careful to allow the beginning ends of your length of yarn D to hang freely in front of the petals you have attached.

Once you have all of the petals rotated to your liking, carefully remove your needle and thread the opposite ends of yarn D, on the front side of your petals, into your needle instead.
With these beginning tails, sew through the middle and back petals and through to the back side, or interior, of the first round of the stems.
You do not need to sew through the center rings of each piece, as you did the first time. However, for best results, try to stay close to the centers of each petal.
You should now have all four ends, two beginning tails and two end tails, threaded through to the interior of your stem.
To finish attaching the petals, simply tie all ends together tightly on the inside of the stem. Once your knot is secure, trim any excess length.
Crochet Pansy Stem – Rounds 4 to 11:

Remove your stitch marker and continue to round 4 of the crochet pansy stem.
Rnd 4: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (10).
Rnd 5: [sc2tog over next 2 sts] 5 times, join, ch 1 (5).
Rnd 6: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (5).
Rnds 7 to 11 (5 rnds): repeat rnd 6.
Secure your working loop with a stitch marker and follow the instructions for attaching a leaf onto the stem before continuing to round 12.
Attaching Leaf:
Retrieve one of the short lengths of yarn C (green) and your first leaf that you’ve set aside earlier.
With a needle, pass your yarn, from interior to exterior, between any space between rounds 10 and 11 of the stem.
Then, pass your needle through the center of the broader end of the leaf, then back into the stem through an adjacent stitch from where you first exited from.

Repeat these steps as many times as desired until your leaf is secured to your liking.
Then, tie both ends of your yarn together on the interior of the stem to secure your sewing, then trim any excess.
Crochet Pansy Stem – Rounds 12 to 17:
Remove your stitch marker and continue to round 12.
Rnd 12: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (5).
Rnds 13 to 15 (3 rnds): repeat rnd 12.
Secure your working loop with a stitch marker and retrieve your second leaf that you’ve set aside earlier.
Repeat the previous instructions for attaching a leaf onto your stem, this time attaching your leaf between rounds 14 and 15.
For best results, position your second leaf on the opposite side of your stem from your first leaf. Then, continue to round 16.
Rnd 16: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (5).
Rnd 17: 1sc into each of next 4 sts, 2sc into next st, join (6).
Fasten off yarn C and leave a short tail for tying.
Crochet Drip Glaze Pot:

Follow the tutorial for the Drip Glaze Pot Cutie companion pattern before continuing to the next steps.
If desired, you may also substitute the drip glaze pot with a Terracotta Pot Cutie—both pot patterns are compatible with all of our Flower Cuties!
The terracotta pot pattern, as seen in the photo below, is slightly easier in difficulty than the drip glaze pot and is a great option for crocheters that are not comfortable with mid-round color changing techniques.
The drip glaze pot pattern, however, has a wider base than the terracotta pot and is a great option for larger flowers, and makes your projects less prone to being top-heavy.
Choose whichever pattern works best for you!

Sewing Together:
Retrieve your flower and place the bottom of the stem over top of the center hole (round 1) of your chosen flower pot.
Using the tail of yarn A left over from the beginning of the flower pot, sew around the entire circumference of the stem and flower pot hole to attach them together.
Secure with a knot to the end tail of the stem, trim any excess length, and weave in tails.

Finally, cut a length of wire to the height of your crochet pansy, from the bottom of the flower pot to the top of stem.
Gently thread the wire through the top of the stem behind the flower and down the stem until it reaches the bottom of your flower pot.
