What is “Virkadia?”
Virkadia is both the name of our crochet pattern shop and blog, as well as the name for the imaginary world in which all of our crochet creatures live. The world is made up of five regions; one for each season, plus a central metropolis. Each region is further segmented into smaller biomes, which all encapsulate their own theme.
For example: Oakhaven and Wraithwood are both towns within the autumn region of Virkadia — but while Oakhaven is a cozy little hamlet inside a deciduous forest of warm yellows and oranges, Wraithwood is a foggy and haunted seaside village, abandoned and stuck in perpetual night.
We hope to expand more on the diverse world of Virkadia in the future, so stay tuned!
What the heck is a “hekle?”
A hekle is an imaginary creature that lives in Virkadia. Hekles are little tricksters — they love to prank unsuspecting visitors and cause friendly mischief everywhere they go. Spotting a hekle in the wild is a rare and magical moment, as they so often enjoy dressing up to blend into their surroundings. Wait, did that mushroom just move on it’s own? It may have been a hekle in disguise!
The Hekles Collection is available as paid patterns through our Etsy store! More patterns are coming soon, so follow us on Instagram for updates on new releases!
What skill level are Virkadia crochet patterns?
All Virkadia crochet patterns are designed with advanced beginner to intermediate-level crocheters in mind. Those who will benefit most from Virkadia crochet patterns are crocheters with a practiced understanding of common stitches (i.e. single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet, etc) and amigurumi techniques (i.e. reading patterns, working in the round, sewing pieces together, etc).
I’m having trouble understanding part of a pattern/stitch, what do I do?
We are currently working to establish a dedicated forum or FAQ space to answer common pattern questions and concerns. Please be patient with us while we work to make this feature available.
Are patterns available in other languages?
Unfortunately, Virkadia crochet patterns are currently only available in English. We hope to one day be able to support different language versions but sadly do not have the resources to do so at this time.
I don’t crochet but still want to support your business. How can I help?
There are several ways to show your support for Virkadia, even if you don’t crochet! Helping to spread the word about Virkadia to your friends and family, either through word-of-mouth or by interacting with our blog and social media, is invaluable and so immensely appreciated. We hope to offer more products in the future that everyone can enjoy — so visit us here on our blog to stay up-to-date with all the current adventures in Virkadia, and follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, and our Etsy shop!
