This free crochet ice cream keychain pattern uses the following special stitch tutorials:
- Single Crochet (YU/YO Method)
- Invisible Decrease
- Joining Rounds
This pattern is worked in the round, with each round joined at the end with a slip stitch. Unless otherwise instructed, the first stitch of your next round will always be worked into the same stitch as your joining slip stitch has been worked into.
Be sure to always keep the ‘right side’ of your stitches facing outwards as you work. The right side is the front side of the stitch that is facing you as you are completing each stitch.
Pattern Instructions | Free Crochet Ice Cream Keychain
Crochet Ice Cream Keychain - Rounds 1 to 10:
With yarn A (white), make a magic ring (or ch 2, work rnd 1 into 2nd ch from hook).
Rnd 1: 6sc into ring, sl st into 1st st to join, ch 1 (6).
Rnd 2: 2sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (12).

Rnd 3: [1sc into next st, 2sc into next st] 6 times, join, ch 1 (18).
Rnd 4: [2sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 5 sts] 3 times, join, ch 1 (21).
Rnd 5: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (21).
Rnd 6: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (21).
Rnd 7: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (21).
Rnd 8: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (21).
Rnd 9: [sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 5 sts] 3 times, do not join (18).
Rnd 10: in FLO of each st around, [sl st into next st, (1sc, 1hdc, 1sc) into next st, sk next st] 6 times, join (24).

Fasten off yarn A and weave in your end tail, taking care to preserve your back loops only, left over from round 9. We will be returning to these back loops when adding the cone.
If desired, follow the instructions next for adding sprinkles onto your scoop before continuing. Otherwise, for a plain scoop, you may skip ahead to round 11 of your crochet ice cream cone keychain.
Adding Sprinkles (Optional):
To embellish your crochet ice cream cone keychain with sprinkles, begin by taking a length of yarn B and sewing, from inside to outside, through any space on the top of your scoop.
Be sure to leave some tail on the inside for tying later. Then, reinsert your needle 1 stitch over in any direction (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally), and pull through.
Choose another space on the top of your scoop and pass your yarn through the surface, from inside to outside, like before. Again, reinsert your needle 1 stitch over in any direction and pull through.
For best results, try changing the direction of each new sprinkle so that they mimic the randomness of real sprinkles!

Repeat these steps around the entire circumference of the top of your scoop until you have as many sprinkles as you desire.
For best results, try adding each new sprinkle to be in close proximity to your last sprinkle, and take care not to pull your yarn too tightly as you are embroidering.
You will need enough space on the inside of the scoop to accommodate your stuffing later, so avoid pulling your yarn taut across the inside of the scoop or sewing too tightly, since the scoop will expand slightly when stuffed.
You can check at any point if your embroidery is too tight by flipping your scoop entirely inside-out.
If the yarn does not stretch enough to be able to be turned inside-out without significant puckering or folding, then the yarn is pulled too tight and your scoop won’t be able to be stuffed properly.

Once you’ve finished embroidering all of the sprinkles to your liking, tie the beginning and end tails of your yarn together on the inside of your piece and cut any excess length.
Repeat these steps with as many colors of sprinkles as you desire!
Crochet Ice Cream Keychain - Rounds 11 to 17:
To begin the cone, fold the scallops from round 10 of the scoop forward so that you can see and access the back loops only, left over from round 9, behind them.
Round 11 of the crochet ice cream keychain will be worked directly off of the scoop, into these back loops only behind the scallops.
Alternatively, if you’re having trouble working directly off of the scoop, you may instead start from a new chain circle (ch 18, sl st into 1st st to form circle) and sew the cone onto the scoop afterwards.

Otherwise, join yarn C (beige) by inserting your hook into the back loop only of the first stitch of round 9. Pull up a loop of yarn C and chain 1.
Tie the tails of both yarn A and yarn C together on the interior of your piece to secure your ends. Begin stuffing as you go.
Rnd 11: 1sc into BLO of each st around, join, ch 1 (18).
Rnd 12: [sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 7 sts] 2 times, join, ch 1 (16).
Rnd 13: [1sc into each of next 6 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sts] 2 times, join, ch 1 (14).

Rnd 14: [sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 5 sts] 2 times, join, ch 1 (12).
Rnd 15: [1sc into each of next 4 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sts] 2 times, join, ch 1 (10).
Rnd 16: [sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 3 sts] 2 times, join, ch 1 (8).
Rnd 17: [1sc into each of next 2 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sts] 2 times, join (6).
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing closed.
Sewing Closed:

To sew the bottom hole closed, pass your needle, from front to back, through the front loop only of each stitch around and then pull tight.
Secure your sewing with a knot, trim the tail, then sew in any remaining length.
Attaching Keychain:
To make your amigurumi into a keychain, like the sample piece below, begin by splitting your first jump ring with pliers and locate the stitch on your piece that you would like to be the topmost point.
The example crochet ice cream keychain is attached to the clip in round 1 of the scoop.
Insert one end of the jump ring through the surface of your piece on one side of your chosen stitch, then out again on the other side of that stitch.
Then, use your pliers to bend the jump ring securely closed. Repeat these steps with a second jump ring onto the bottom of your keychain clip.

Finally, connect your amigurumi and keychain clip together by threading a third jump ring through both of your first two jump rings, and bending it closed to create a chain of three jump rings total.
The length of your chain can be modified to be longer or shorter by using more or fewer jump rings, respectively. You may also connect your jump rings onto a premade chain, instead.
Alternatively, you may also sew your piece onto the keychain clip with a length of yarn, or create a length of macramé or braid to connect your pieces together, as well.
Choose whichever method works best for you! Just be sure to choose components that are durable enough for your intended use!
