Special Stitch Instructions:
Please review our special stitch instructions on our Stitch Tutorials FAQ page before beginning, as some techniques may be unique to this pattern.

This free crochet ghost keychain pattern uses the following special stitch tutorials:
- Single Crochet (YU/YO Method)
- Invisible Decrease
- Joining Rounds
- Small Popcorn Stitch
This pattern is worked in the round, with each round joined at the end with a slip stitch. Unless otherwise instructed, the first stitch of your next round will always be worked into the same stitch as your joining slip stitch has been worked into.
Be sure to always keep the ‘right side’ of your stitches facing outwards as you work. The right side is the front side of the stitch that is facing you as you are completing each stitch.
Small Popcorn Stitch:
This free crochet ghost keychain pattern uses a variation of the popcorn stitch that utilizes only 3 double crochet stitches, instead of the more common 5 double crochet, as seen below.

Begin by working 3 double crochet into the next stitch. Then, pull up your working loop (large enough that your last stitch will not be accidentally pulled undone) and remove your hook.
Next, insert your hook, from front to back, through the top of the first double crochet you’ve made in the 3 double crochet sequence. Now, pull your working loop from the third double crochet through the top of the first double crochet.
Lastly, pull your working tail so that your working loop fits back snugly around your hook and continue to your next stitch.
Pattern Instructions | Free Crochet Ghost Keychain
Crochet Ghost Keychain Interior:
To begin the crochet ghost keychain, we will first be making a plain ball shape to insert into the interior of your ghost.
This interior piece will help your finished ghost keep its full shape, as well as add a nice, dark contrast into the sheet’s eyeholes.
With yarn A (gray/black), make a magic ring (or ch 2, work rnd 1 into 2nd ch from hook).
Rnd 1: 6sc into ring, sl st into 1st st to join, ch 1 (6).
Rnd 2: 2sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (12).
Rnd 3: [1sc into each of next 3 sts, 2sc into next st] 3 times, join, ch 1 (15).

Rnd 4: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (15).
Rnd 5: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (15).
Rnd 6: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (15).

Begin stuffing as you go. Continue to add stuffing as you close your piece during rounds 8 and 9, until it is completely full.
Rnd 8: [sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 3 sts] 3 times, join, ch 1 (12).
Rnd 9: [sc2tog over next 2 sts] 6 times, join (6).
Fasten off yarn A and leave a tail for sewing closed.
Sewing Interior Closed:

To sew the bottom hole closed, pass your needle, from front to back, through the front loop only of each stitch around and then pull tight.
Secure your sewing with a knot, trim the tail, then sew in any remaining length.
Set aside for now. This piece will be inserted into the interior of your crochet ghost keychain later.

Retrieve your crochet ghost keychain interior that you’ve set aside earlier and insert it into the bottom opening of your ghost.
Continue to push it all of the way inside, until it reaches the top of the interior, and is visible through the eye and mouth holes.
If desired, you may permanently adhere the inserted piece into the interior of your ghost by sewing both pieces together with a length of yarn A.
Alternatively, you may also leave them unattached and create more inserts in different colors so that your ghost’s eye color is customizable to your current style or mood!
Attaching Keychain:
To make your amigurumi into a keychain, like the sample piece below, begin by splitting your first jump ring with pliers and locate the stitch on your piece that you would like to be the topmost point.
The example crochet ghost keychain is attached to the clip between rounds 1 and 2 of the ghost’s exterior.
Insert one end of the jump ring through the surface of your piece on one side of your chosen stitch, then out again on the other side of that stitch.
Then, use your pliers to bend the jump ring securely closed. Repeat these steps with a second jump ring onto the bottom of your keychain clip.

Finally, connect your amigurumi and keychain clip together by threading a third jump ring through both of your first two jump rings, and bending it closed to create a chain of three jump rings total.
The length of your chain can be modified to be longer or shorter by using more or fewer jump rings, respectively. You may also connect your jump rings onto a premade chain, instead.
Alternatively, you may also sew your piece onto the keychain clip with a length of yarn, or create a length of macramé or braid to connect your pieces together, as well.
Choose whichever method works best for you! Just be sure to choose components that are durable enough for your intended use!
