This free crochet chocolate bar amigurumi pattern uses the following special stitch tutorials:
- Single Crochet (YU/YO Method)
- Joining Rounds
This pattern is worked in the round, with each round joined at the end with a slip stitch. Unless otherwise instructed, the first stitch of your next round will always be worked into the same stitch as your joining slip stitch has been worked into.
Be sure to always keep the ‘right side’ of your stitches facing outwards as you work. The right side is the front side of the stitch that is facing you as you are completing each stitch.

Crochet Chocolate Bar Front – Rounds 1 to 6:
With yarn A (brown), ch 10.
Rnd 1: beginning in 2nd ch from hook, *1sc into each of next 8 sts, 2sc into next st,* working into other side of ch sts, repeat from * to * 1 time, sl st into 1st st to join, ch 1 (20).
Rnd 2: [3sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 7 sts, 3sc into next st, 1sc into next st] 2 times, join, ch 1 (28).
Rnd 3: [1sc into next st, 3sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 9 sts, 3sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 2 sts] 2 times, join, ch 1 (36).
Rnd 4: [1sc into each of next 2 sts, 3sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 11 sts, 3sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 3 sts] 2 times, join, ch 1 (44).
Rnd 5: [1sc into each of next 3 sts, 3sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 13 sts, 3sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 4 sts] 2 times, join, ch 1 (52).
Rnd 6: [1sc into each of next 4 sts, 3sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 15 sts, 3sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 5 sts] 2 times, join (60).
Fasten off yarn A. Weave in tail and set aside for now.

Crochet Chocolate Bar Pieces – Rounds 1 to 2:
To create the texture of break-off pieces on your chocolate bar, we will be creating six smaller squares to layer on top of the front chocolate bar piece you’ve just set aside.
You may create all six squares first before beginning to attach them, or you may adhere them one by one as you finish each. Choose whichever method works best for you!
With yarn A (brown), make a magic ring (or ch 4, sl st into 1st st to form a ring, ch 1).
Rnd 1: [1sc into ring, 1hdc into ring] 4 times, sl st into 1st st to join, ch 1 (8).
Rnd 2: [1sc into next st, (1sc, 1hdc, 1sc) into next st] 4 times (16).

Two different methods are provided below for attaching the chocolate pieces. For beginners and casual crocheters, it is recommended to simply sew them on.
However, for the more advanced method of attaching the chocolate pieces, as used in the example photos, follow the instructions provided after the next image.
If you would like to sew the chocolate pieces onto the front layer of the chocolate bar with a needle, you may finish off each square with a slip stitch into the first stitch to join and then fasten off. Be sure to leave a tail long enough for sewing around the square.
The chocolate pieces should be arranged into a 2×3 grid on top of the front layer of the chocolate bar. Each piece should be roughly one round inwards from the outside edges.
Be careful not to sew over the tops of the stitches from round 6 of the chocolate bar front. The outer edge of the chocolate bar will still be worked into later.
After attaching each piece, secure your sewing with a knot onto the back of the piece. Don’t worry about your knot being visible, as this side will be covered later by the back layer of your crochet chocolate bar.

Alternatively, you may also attach the chocolate pieces using slip stitches with your hook. For this method, do not join your last round yet. Instead, cut your working yarn, leaving at least 3 feet of tail (or enough for 16 slip stitches through both layers of the chocolate bar).
Then, align your square piece onto the front layer of the chocolate bar. Again, each piece should be roughly one round inwards from the outer edges and separated by two stitches between squares, arranged into a 2×3 grid.
Without undoing your working loop, use your hook or a needle to thread your long tail through the chocolate bar front piece, so that your active loop remains in front of your current square, but your working yarn is now behind both layers.
Now, work a slip stitch into each stitch around your square, working through both layers to adhere them together. At the end, fasten off and thread your tail to the back of both layers and secure with a knot onto the back.
Trim any excess tail. Again, don’t worry about your knot being visible, as this side will be covered later by the back layer of your crochet chocolate bar.
Crochet Chocolate Bar Back – Rounds 1 to 7:
Once all 6 squares are attached in a 2×3 grid onto the front of your chocolate bar, set aside for now.
Follow the instructions below to add a back layer onto your piece and to complete your chocolate bar.
Rnd 6: [1sc into each of next 4 sts, 3sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 15 sts, 3sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 5 sts] 2 times, do not join (60).
Retrieve the front layer of your chocolate bar that you’ve set aside earlier and layer it onto the back of your current work, wrong sides together.
Make sure that the square pieces are facing outwards and all edges are matched up before continuing.

You will be working round 7 into the stitches of round 6 of both the back and front layers of the chocolate bar simultaneously in order to attach them together.
Rnd 7: working through both the back and front layers together, sl st into each st around, join (60).
Fasten off yarn A and weave in tail. Set aside and continue to the chocolate bar wrapper.
Crochet Chocolate Bar Wrapper – Rounds 1 to 15:
With yarn B (red), ch 13.
Rnd 1: beginning in 2nd ch from hook, *1sc into each of next 11 sts, 2sc into next st,* working into other side of ch sts, repeat from * to * 1 time, sl st into 1st st to join, ch 1 (26).
Rnd 2: [2sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 10 sts, 2sc into each of next 2 sts] 2 times, join, ch 1 (32).
Rnd 3: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (32).
Rnds 4 to 9 (6 rnds): repeat rnd 3 (32).
Rnd 10: 1sc into each st around, join (32).
Fasten off yarn B and leave a short tail for tying.

Join yarn C (silver) by inserting your hook into the back loop only of the first stitch of round 10. Pull up a loop of yarn C and chain 1.
Tie the tails of both yarn B and yarn C together on the interior of your piece to secure your ends and weave in any tails.
Rnd 11: in BLO of each st around, 1sc into each of next 25 sts, sl st into each of next 7 sts, join, ch 1 (32).
For round 12, you will be working only a partial round around your crochet chocolate bar wrapper. Each subsequent round will now be worked back and forth, rather than in the round.
Rnd 12: in FLO of each st, sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 21 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sts, sk last 7 sts, ch 1, turn (23).
Rnd 13: sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 19 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sts, ch 1, turn (21).
Rnd 14: sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 15 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sts, sk last 2 sts, ch 1, turn (17).
Rnd 15: sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 13 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sts (17).
Fasten off yarn C and weave in tail.

Follow the instructions below for adding the eyes, mouth, and blush before adding the chocolate bar into the wrapper.
Adding Eyes:
Using the example piece below as reference, insert both safety eyes through the center of the front of your chocolate bar wrapper.
The safety eyes should be inserted between rounds 7 and 8 and should sit 6 stitches apart.

Adding Mouth:
Using the example piece below as reference, embroider a mouth using black embroidery floss.
The mouth should be embroidered over top of round 6 and be centered between the eyes. The mouth will be 2 stitches wide and 1 round tall.

Begin by inserting your needle from inside to outside, 1 round down and 2 stitches to the right from where you’ve inserted the left eye. Pull through and leave some tail for tying later.
Then, insert your needle again, 2 stitches to the right, and out again, 1 round down and 1 stitch to the left from where you’ve just inserted, and pull through.

Pass your needle up and underneath the horizontal strand you’ve just created and pull through. Then, insert your needle back into the same space as you’ve last exited from.
Pull your thread through and tug it down slightly until it forms a V-shape. Gently tie both ends together inside your piece, but take extra care not to pull the threads too tight!
Adding Blush:
Using the example piece below as reference, embroider a blush line using pink embroidery floss or yarn next to each eye.
Each blush line should start 1 round down (between rounds 6 and 7) and 1 stitch outwards from where each eye was inserted, and span 1 stitch length outwards (away from the center of the face).

Begin by inserting your needle from inside to outside, 1 round down and 1 stitch outwards from where you’ve inserted the eye.
Pull through, leaving some tail inside for tying later. Then, insert your needle back in, 1 more stitch outwards.
If using yarn, you may skip ahead to tying both ends together on the inside of your piece.
If using embroidery floss, pass your needle back out through the same space as you’ve last exited from and pull through. Reinsert your needle, again, 1 stitch outwards in the same place as before.
Repeat these last steps 3 more times, or until you are satisfied with the size of your blush. Then, gently tie both ends together on the inside of your piece.
Take extra care as you tie your ends not to pull the threads too tight! After finishing your knot, trim any excess length.
Crochet Chocolate Bar – Assembly:

Once you’ve added the eyes, mouth, and blush to the crochet chocolate bar wrapper, you may now add the chocolate bar into the wrapper!
If you’ve used the type of safety eyes that are pointed on the inside, be sure to pull the front of the wrapper open wide enough to slip the chocolate bar behind them.
After the chocolate bar is inserted, you can push the safety eyes to poke slightly into the chocolate bar, as well, to keep the front of the wrapper flat against the chocolate.

I don't know why, but I am struggling to get the chocolate bar to be a nice rectangle.!!!

Hi Patrice!
Without seeing your piece, it’s difficult to know what may be happening—but I have some ideas that may help!
If it’s turning out mishapen because of the corner increases being in the wrong spots, you can try adding a stitch marker to the 2nd sc of each 3sc corner.
Then, in all subsequent rounds, place each new 3sc corner into the marked stitch, remove the stitch marker, and reinsert the marker back into the 2nd sc of the new 3sc corner.
This way, your corners will always be in the correct spot even without counting!
If your corners are correct and your rectangle is still coming out wonky anyway, this may be because your stitches are slanting.
Crochet stitches always have a natural slant to them, however, using the YU/YO method for your single crochets can help improve this problem!
You can find the instructions for the YU/YO method on our Stitch Tutorials FAQ page, if needed.
Lastly, if your corners are placed correctly and your stitches aren’t slanting too dramatically, any small shaping problems are also likely going to be solved once you add the second layer onto the back of your chocolate bar!
Since you’ll be adding the layers back-to-back, the two layers should even each other out fairly well and correct any subtle slanting or shaping issues.
Hope one of these helps!
