This free Little Crochet Guy doll amigurumi pattern uses the following special stitch tutorials:
- Single Crochet (YU/YO Method)
- Invisible Decrease
- Joining Rounds
This pattern is worked in the round, with each round joined at the end with a slip stitch. Unless otherwise instructed, the first stitch of your next round will always be worked into the same stitch as your joining slip stitch has been worked into.
Be sure to always keep the ‘right side’ of your stitches facing outwards as you work. The right side is the front side of the stitch that is facing you as you are completing each stitch.

Customizing Colors:
The example piece shown throughout this free Little Crochet Guy doll pattern will be worked in a single color only, with no color changes.
If you already have a chosen Little Crochet Guy accessory set in mind, be sure to refer to that specific pattern for recommended color modifications first.
However, depending on your specific project or Little Crochet Guy accessories, you may choose to customize your doll with a more unique color way, like shown below.

For example, you can add shoes onto your Little Crochet Guy by beginning each leg in a different color than the body. Work rounds 1 and 2 in your chosen shoe color, then switch to your pants/body color for round 3 of both legs and onwards.
Likewise, to add a long-sleeve shirt onto your Little Crochet Guy, you may change to a new color after completing round 5 of the body, as well as after round 2 of each arm.
You may further modify the shirt to have a striped pattern, as seen on the right above, by alternating colors after every round for the remainder of the arms and body.
Lastly, to add a skin color to your Little Crochet Guy that is different from the body/shirt color, work rounds 1 and 2 of each arm in your chosen skin color, as well as the entirety of the head pattern.
Otherwise, for a solid color Little Crochet Guy, as seen on the left, you may follow the pattern below as written, without any color changes.
Little Crochet Guy Doll Arms:
If you are customizing your Little Crochet Guy to have a skin color that is different from the body color, be sure to begin each arm with your chosen skin color, instead of the example color option.
Otherwise, with yarn A (green), make a magic ring (or ch 2, work rnd 1 into 2nd ch from hook).
Rnd 1: 6sc into ring, sl st into 1st st to join, ch 1 (6).
Rnd 2: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (6).

If you are modifying your Little Crochet Guy to have a different hand color, you may fasten off now. Join your next color by inserting your hook into the first stitch of your next round.
Pull up a loop of your new color and chain 1. Tie the tails of both colors together on the interior of your piece to secure your ends, trim your tails, then continue as normal.
Rnd 3: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (6).
Rnds 4 to 8 (5 rnds): repeat rnd 3 (6).
Fasten off and set aside for now.
Repeat rounds 1 to 8 to create a second arm, then continue to the instructions for the Little Crochet Guy legs next.

Little Crochet Guy Doll Legs:
If you are modifying your Little Crochet Guy to have shoes, be sure to begin each leg with your chosen shoe color, instead of the example color option.
Otherwise, with yarn A (green), make a magic ring (or ch 3, work rnd 1 into 3rd ch from hook).
Rnd 1: 9hdc into ring, sl st into BLO of 1st hdc to join, ch 1 (9).
For best results, try working each stitch during round 2 into the back loop and the 3rd loop of each half double crochet around.
The 3rd loop is located just behind the back loop, on the back side of each half double crochet, as seen below.
If you find this method difficult, however, you may work round 2 into the back loops only, instead.

Rnd 2: 1sc into BLO and 3rd loop of each hdc around, sl st into 1st st to join, ch 1 (9).
If you have added shoes, you may change colors now.
Rnd 3: 1sc into each st around, join (9).
Fasten off and leave a 6-8 inch tail for sewing. This will be leg #1. Set aside for now.
We will now be repeating rounds 1 to 3 to create a second leg. If you made any modifications to the first leg, be sure to duplicate them on the second leg, as well.
With yarn A (green) or chosen shoes color, make a magic ring (or ch 3, work rnd 1 into 3rd ch from hook).
Rnd 1: 9hdc into ring, sl st into BLO of 1st hdc to join, ch 1 (9).
Rnd 2: 1sc into BLO and 3rd loop of each hdc around, sl st into 1st st to join, ch 1 (9).
If you have added shoes, you may change colors now.

Rnd 3: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (9).
This will be leg #2. Do not fasten off, as you will be working directly off of leg #2 to join both legs together and begin the body.
Joining Legs (Round 4):
Retrieve leg #1 that you’ve set aside earlier and leave it on standby. You will be working round 4 around the full circumference of both legs in order to join them together.
Rnd 4: 1sc into each of next 9 sts of leg #2, 1sc into 1st st of leg #1, 1sc into each of next 8 sts of leg #1, sl st into 1st st of rnd to join, ch 1 (18).
Secure your working loop with a stitch marker and remove your hook.
You will now see that both leg pieces are joined together, with the exception of a small hole left over between the legs.

Using the end tail left over from fastening off of leg #1, sew this small hole closed before continuing.
For best results, try sewing into the same spaces as where you’ve worked the first and last stitches of each leg during round 4.
In other words, sew through where the 1st and 18th stitches of round 4 were worked into, then through where the 9th and 10th stitches were worked into.
Secure your sewing with a knot to the interior of the piece and trim any excess length. Remove your stitch marker and continue to round 5 of the Little Crochet Guy doll body.
Little Crochet Guy Doll Body:
Return your hook into your working loop and begin stuffing as you go.
Rnd 5: [1sc into each of next 5 sts, 2sc into next st] 3 times, join, ch 1 (21).
If you are customizing your Little Crochet Guy to have a different shirt color, you may change colors now.
Rnd 6: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (21).
Rnd 7: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (21).
Rnd 8: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (21).

Rnd 9: [sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 5 sts] 3 times, join, ch 1 (18).
Rnd 10: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (18).
Rnd 11: [1sc into each of next 4 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sts] 3 times, join, ch 1 (15).
Retrieve both arms that you’ve set aside earlier and flatten the top round of each arm so that the stitches form 2 parallel lines of 3 stitches each.
During round 12, you will be working some of your stitches through both layers of the arm and the current round of the body simultaneously in order to connect the arms onto the body.
When inserting your hook to begin each of these stitches, you should pass through two layers of the arm first (from outside to inside through the first layer, then inside to outside for the second layer) and through the body layer last, as seen below.

Alternatively, if you have trouble with this method, you may instead work a normal round of single crochet stitches (1sc into each st around, join, ch 1).
Afterwards, the arms may then be sewn onto the body individually, using a length of yarn A, over top of round 12 on either side of the body.
Rnd 12: 1sc into each of next 2 sts of body only, 1sc into each of next 3 sts of both 1st arm and body together, 1sc into each of next 5 sts of body only, 1sc into each of next 3 sts of both 2nd arm and body together, 1sc into each of next 2 sts of body only, join, ch 1 (15).
Rnd 13: [sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 3 sts] 3 times, join, ch 1 (12).

Little Crochet Guy Doll Head - Rounds 1 to 9:
If you are modifying your Little Crochet Guy to have a different skin color than the rest of the body, you may change colors now.
Round 1 of the head will be continued directly off of the last round of the body.
As you begin the head, fill the body with stuffing until it is full but do not add any stuffing into the head just yet.
Rnd 1: [1sc into next st, 2sc into next st] 6 times, join, ch 1 (18).
Rnd 2: [2sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 2 sts] 6 times, join, ch 1 (24).
Rnd 3: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (24).
Rnds 4 to 9 (6 rnds): repeat rnd 3 (24).

Secure your working loop with a stitch marker and follow the directions below for adding the eyes and mouth before continuing to round 10 of your Little Crochet Guy doll head.
Adding Eyes & Mouth:
Insert both safety eyes through the front of your head, on the opposite side from your joining seam.
The safety eyes should be inserted between rounds 5 and 6 of the head, or between the 4th and 5th rounds down from your top edge.
The eyes should be spaced 5 stitches apart, from the center of one eye to the center of the other.

Next, with a length of black yarn and a needle, embroider a mouth onto the front of your face.
The mouth should be embroidered between rounds 3 and 4 of the head and be centered between the eyes. The mouth will be 1 stitch wide.
Begin by inserting your needle from inside to outside, 2 rounds down and 2 stitches to the right from where you've inserted the left eye.
Pull through and leave some tail inside for tying later. Then, insert your needle again, 1 stitch to the right, and pull through.
Gently tie both ends together on the inside of your piece, taking care not to pull your embroidery too tight as you do so. After finishing your knot, trim any excess length.
Little Crochet Guy Doll Head - Rounds 10 to 12:
Remove your stitch marker and continue to the next round.
Stuff the head until it is full and continue to add stuffing as you close your head during rounds 10 to 12.
Rnd 10: [sc2tog over next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 2 sts] 6 times, join, ch 1 (18).
Rnd 11: [1sc into next st, sc2tog over next 2 sts] 6 times, join, ch 1 (12).
Rnd 12: [sc2tog over next 2 sts] 6 times, join (6).
Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing closed.

To sew the top hole closed, pass your needle, from front to back, through the front loop only of each stitch around and then pull tight.
Secure your sewing with a knot, trim the tail, then sew in any remaining length.
