This free crochet Little Acorn Guy amigurumi pattern uses the following special stitch tutorials:
- Single Crochet (YU/YO Method)
- Invisible Decrease
- Joining Rounds
- Small Popcorn Stitch
This pattern is worked in the round, with each round joined at the end with a slip stitch. Unless otherwise instructed, the first stitch of your next round will always be worked into the same stitch as your joining slip stitch has been worked into.
Be sure to always keep the ‘right side’ of your stitches facing outwards as you work. The right side is the front side of the stitch that is facing you as you are completing each stitch.
Small Popcorn Stitch:
This free crochet Little Acorn Guy amigurumi pattern uses a variation of the popcorn stitch that utilizes only 3 double crochet stitches, instead of the more common 5 double crochet, as seen below.

Begin by working 3 double crochet into the next stitch. Then, pull up your working loop (large enough that your last stitch will not be accidentally pulled undone) and remove your hook.
Next, insert your hook, from front to back, through the top of the first double crochet you’ve made in the 3 double crochet sequence. Now, pull your working loop from the third double crochet through the top of the first double crochet.
Lastly, pull your working tail so that your working loop fits back snugly around your hook and continue to your next stitch.
Pattern Instructions | Free Crochet Little Acorn Guy
Little Crochet Guy - Base Pattern:
Before making your Little Acorn Guy accessories, you should first start with the Little Crochet Guy base pattern.
The example body shown throughout this free crochet Little Acorn Guy doll pattern is worked in a single color (tan) only, with no color changes, as seen below.
The alternative example, as seen on the right in the cover photo, is worked in 3 colors, with separate colors used for the skin and shoes (brown), pants (green), and shirt (light green).
However, you may also customize your base pattern into different color ways by following the Customizing Colors instructions, as outlined in the base pattern.

Crochet Acorn Leaf:
With yarn A (green), chain 8.
Round 1 of this crochet leaf will worked into both sides of your chain stitches.
Optionally, for a cleaner center seam and to minimize holes, try working the first half of round 1 into the back bars, not the back loops, of each chain stitch across, as seen below.

Then, when you reach the last stitch on the top side of your chain, rotate your work and continue working back in the opposite direction along the bottom side of your chain.
Rnd 1: 1dc into 3rd ch from hook, 2tr into next st, 1dc into next st, 1hdc into next st, 1sc into next st, sl st into next st, ch 1, working into other side of ch sts, sl st into next st, 1sc into next st, 1hdc into next st, 1dc into next st, 2tr into next st, 1dc into next st, ch 2, sl st into same st as last dc (20).
Fasten off yarn A and weave in tails. Set aside for now.

Repeat all steps three more times, for a total of four leaves altogether. Then, continue to the crochet acorn cap next.
Crochet Little Acorn Guy Cap - Rounds 1 to 7:
With yarn B (brown), make a magic ring (or ch 2, work rnd 1 into 2nd ch from hook).
Rnd 1: 6sc into ring, sl st into 1st st to join, ch 1 (6).
Rnd 2: 1sc into BLO of each st around, join, ch 1 (6).
Rnd 3: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (6).
Rnd 4: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (6).
Rnd 5: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (6).
Rnd 6: (1sc, 1pc) into each st around, join, ch 1 (12).
Rnd 7: [1sc into next st, 2sc into next st] 6 times, join, ch 1 (18).

Secure your working loop with a stitch marker and follow the instructions for attaching a leaf onto your crochet acorn cap before continuing to round 8.
Attaching Leaf:
Retrieve one of the crochet leaves that you’ve set aside earlier and locate which side of the cap that you want to attach your leaf onto.
Using a length of yarn A (green), sew through the crochet acorn cap, from inside to outside, anywhere between rounds 5 and 6 at the base of the stem.
Leave a short tail on the interior of the cap for tying later, then insert your needle into the leaf, on the opposite side from the pointy end, into the same space as where you worked your last stitch into.
Reinsert your needle into the acorn cap, one round directly above the space that you last exited from. For a stronger hold, sew through the same sequence of spaces one more time.

To finish, tie both tails together securely on the interior of your piece, then trim any excess length.
Crochet Little Acorn Guy Cap - Rounds 8 to 12:
Remove your stitch marker and insert your hook back into your working loop.
Rnd 8: [(1sc, 1pc) into next st, 1sc into next st, 1pc into next st] 6 times, join, ch 1 (24).
Rnd 9: [1sc into each of next 3 sts, 2sc into next st] 6 times, join, ch 1 (30).
Rnd 10: [1sc into next st, 1pc into next st] 15 times, join, ch 1 (30).
Rnd 11: [1sc into each of next 8 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sts] 3 times, join (27).
Fasten off yarn B and leave a short tail for tying.
Join yarn C (tan) by inserting your hook into the first stitch of your next round. Pull up a loop of yarn C and chain 1.
Tie the tails of both yarn B and yarn C together on the interior of your piece to secure your ends, then trim any excess length.
Rnd 12: 1sc into each st around, join (27).
Fasten off yarn C and weave in your end tail.

Crochet Little Acorn Guy Leaf Cape:
Retrieve all three of your remaining crochet leaves that you’ve set aside earlier and keep them on standby.
Row 1 of the cape will be working back into the 4 chain stitches along the edge of each leaf, on the opposite side from the pointy end, in order to connect them together into one strip.
Take care to work row 1 into the back loops of the chain stitches only, not into the space beneath the chain stitches.
With yarn A (green) leave a 5 to 7 inch beginning tail for tying and create a new slip knot on your hook.
Row 1: ch 3, [sl st into each of next 4 ch of next leaf] 3 times, ch 3 (18).
To fasten off, work 1 more chain and cut your working yarn, leaving another 5 to 7 inch end tail for tying,
Pull your end tail completely up and through your last chain stitch. Then, secure your work by pulling on your end tail until your very last chain is pulled tight.

Assembling Pieces:
To assemble all pieces of your crochet Little Acorn Guy together, begin by wrapping the cape around the neck of the body.
Make sure that the right sides of the leaves are facing outwards, and that they are rotated towards the back of the body.
Then, tie both tails together into a simple bow to secure your cape.
To finish, take the crochet acorn cap that you’ve set aside earlier and push it down on top of the head until it is secure.
