This pattern is worked in the round, with each round joined at the end with a slip stitch. Unless otherwise instructed, the first stitch of your next round will always be worked into the same stitch as your joining slip stitch has been worked into.

Pattern Instructions | Free Crochet Little Bat Guy
Little Crochet Guy - Base Pattern:
Before making your Little Bat Guy accessories, you should first start with the Little Crochet Guy base pattern.
The example body shown throughout this free crochet Little Bat Guy doll pattern is worked in 3 colors, with separate colors used for the skin (beige), body (purple), and shoes (black), as seen below.
The alternative example (color variation 2), as seen on the right in the cover image, uses a body that is worked in one solid color (dark gray).
You may also customize your base pattern into different color ways by following the Customizing Colors instructions, as outlined in the base pattern.

Crochet Little Bat Guy Ears:
With yarn A (purple), make a magic ring (or ch 2, work rnd 1 into 2nd ch from hook).
Rnd 1: 6sc into ring, sl st into 1st st to join, ch 1 (6).
Rnd 2: 2sc into each of next 2 sts, (1hdc, 1dc, 1tr) into next st, (1tr, 1dc, 1hdc) into next st, 2sc into each of next 2 sts, ch 1 (14).
Rnd 3: 1sc into each of next 6 sts, 2sc into each of next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 6 sts, join (16).
Fasten off yarn A and weave in tails. Set aside for now.

Repeat rounds 1 to 3, 1 more time, for a total of 2 ears. Then, continue to the crochet Little Bat Guy hat next.
Crochet Little Bat Guy Hat:
With yarn A (purple), make a magic ring (or ch 2, work rnd 1 into 2nd ch from hook).
Rnd 1: 6sc into ring, sl st into 1st st to join, ch 1 (6).
Rnd 2: 2sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (12).
Rnd 3: [1sc into next st, 2sc into next st] 6 times, join, ch 1 (18).
Rnd 4: [2sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 2 sts] 6 times, join, ch 1 (24).
Rnd 5: [1sc into each of next 7 sts, 2sc into next st] 3 times, join, ch 1 (27).
Rnd 6: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (27).

Retrieve both ears that you’ve set aside earlier and keep them on standby.
During round 7, we will be attaching the ears onto the hat by working some stitches through both the last round of an ear and the current round of the hat simultaneously.
Before attaching each ear, make sure that side of the ear that you want to face forward is currently facing you. Additionally, the ear should be laying in front of the hat, so that your hook is inserted into the ear first, then the hat second.
The first ear should be connected onto the hat using the first 3 stitches after the joining seam of the ear. Likewise, the second ear will be connected using the last 3 stitches before the joining seam.
Alternatively, if you have trouble with this method, you may instead work a normal round of single crochet stitches (1sc into each st around, join, ch 1).
Afterwards, the ears may then be sewn on individually, using a length of yarn A, over top of round 7 of the hat.

Rnd 7: 1sc into each of next 9 sts of hat only, 1sc into each of next 3 sts of both 1st ear and hat together, 1sc into each of next 3 sts of hat only, 1sc into each of next 3 sts of both 2nd ear and hat together, 1sc into each of next 9 sts of hat only, join, ch 1 (27).
Rnd 8: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (27).
Rnd 9: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (27).
Rnd 10: 1sc into each st around, join, ch 1 (27).
Rnd 11: 1sc into each st around, join (27).
Fasten off yarn A and weave in end. Continue to the crochet Little Bat Guy wings next.

Crochet Little Bat Guy Wings:
Test the position of the hat on your Little Crochet Guy base and locate the lowest 2 stitches along the bottom edge of the hat, at the back of the head.
Insert a stitch marker into each of these two stitches. We will be working directly off of these stitches to begin the wings.
The example crochet Little Bat Guy has the first and last stitches of round 11 of the hat as its bottommost stitches.
With yarn A (purple), create a new slip knot on your hook.
Row 1: ch 9, 3dc into each of next 2 marked sts of hat, ch 10, turn (25).
Row 2: sk 1 ch, 1sc into each of next 4 sts, [sc2tog over next 2 sts] 2 times, 1sc into each of next 3 sts, 2sc into each of next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 3 sts, [sc2tog over next 2 sts] 2 times, 1sc into each of next 4 sts, ch 1, turn (22).

Row 3: 1sc into each of next 3 sts, [sc2tog over next 2 sts] 2 times, 1sc into each of next 3 sts, 2sc into each of next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 3 sts, [sc2tog over next 2 sts] 2 times, 1sc into each of next 3 sts, ch 1, turn (20).
Row 4: 1sc into each of next 2 sts, [sc2tog over next 2 sts] 2 times, 1sc into each of next 3 sts, 2sc into each of next 2 sts, 1sc into each of next 3 sts, [sc2tog over next 2 sts] 2 times, 1sc into each of next 2 sts, ch 1, turn (18).
Row 5: sk next st, [sc2tog over next 2 sts] 2 times, 1sc into each of next 3 sts, (1hdc, 1dc, 1tr) into next st, (1tr, 1dc, 1hdc) into next st, 1sc into each of next 3 sts, [sc2tog over next 2 sts] 2 times, sl st into next st (17).
Fasten off yarn A and weave in all tails.

Assembling Pieces:
To assemble your crochet Little Bat Guy together, rotate the hat so that the ears are pointing upward and push it down on top of the head until it is secure.
The wings should hang off of the bottom of the hat and lay flat across the back of the body.
