Special Stitch Instructions
Please review our special stitch instructions on our Stitch Tutorials FAQ before beginning, as some techniques may be unique to this pattern.

This free crochet succulent amigurumi pattern uses the following special stitch tutorials:
- Single Crochet (YU/YO Method)
- Invisible Decrease
- Joining Rounds
- Changing Colors Mid-Round
- Small Popcorn Stitch
This pattern is worked in the round, with each round joined at the end with a slip stitch. Unless otherwise instructed, the first stitch of your next round will always be worked into the same stitch as your joining slip stitch has been worked into.
Be sure to always keep the ‘right side’ of your stitches facing outwards as you work. The right side is the front side of the stitch that is facing you as you are completing each stitch.
Small Popcorn Stitch:
This free crochet succulent amigurumi pattern uses a variation of the popcorn stitch that utilizes only 3 double crochet stitches, instead of the more common 5 double crochet, as seen below.

Begin by working 3 double crochet into the next stitch. Then, pull up your working loop (large enough that your last stitch will not be accidentally pulled undone) and remove your hook.
Next, Insert your hook into the top of the first double crochet you’ve made in the 3 double crochet sequence. Now, pull your working loop from the third double crochet through the top of the first double crochet.
Lastly, pull your working tail so that your working loop fits back snugly around your hook and continue to your next stitch.

Repeat rounds 1 to 9, four more times, for a total of five large crochet succulent leaves.
Then, continue to the instructions below for connecting all of the leaves into the full succulent plant.
Crochet Succulent Plant:
With yarn A (green), make a magic ring (or ch 2, work rnd 1 into 2nd ch from hook).
Rnd 1: 6sc into ring, sl st into 1st st to join, ch 1 (6).
Rnd 2: [2sc into next st, 1pc into next st] 3 times, join, ch 1 (9).

Retrieve all 12 leaves (3 small, 4 medium, and 5 large) that you’ve set aside earlier and have them on standby.
We will now begin adding the individual leaves onto the succulent plant body by working our stitches through each leaf and our current piece simultaneously to attach them together.
Start by locating your 3 small leaves and flatten each leaf so that the last round, or open end, of the leaf forms 2 parallel lines of 3 stitches each.
Keeping each leaf in front of your current work, work each stitch in round 3 through both layers of the last round of one leaf, then through your current piece, or plant body, as seen below.

Rnd 3: [1sc into each of next 3 sts of next small leaf and plant body together] 3 times, join, ch 1 (9).
Rnd 4: [1sc into each of next 2 sts, 2sc into next st] 3 times, join, ch 1 (12).
Retrieve all 4 medium leaves and flatten each leaf so that the last round, or open end, of the leaf forms 2 parallel lines of 3 stitches each.
During round 5, use the same method as before, to attach each medium leaf onto the plant body.
Rnd 5: [1sc into each of next 3 sts of next medium leaf and plant body together] 4 times, join, ch 1 (12).
Rnd 6: [1sc into each of next 3 sts, 2sc into next st] 3 times, join, ch 1 (15).
Retrieve all 5 large leaves and flatten each leaf so that the last round, or open end, of the leaf forms 2 parallel lines of 3 stitches each.

Rnd 7: [1sc into each of next 3 sts of next large leaf and plant body together] 5 times, join, ch 1 (15).
Rnd 8: [1sc into each of next 4 sts, 2sc into next st] 3 times, join (18).
Fasten off yarn A and leave a short tail for tying.
Adding stuffing into the plant body is optional. The example crochet succulent is not stuffed, but you may choose to add stuffing before continuing, if desired.
Set aside for now, then continue to the instructions for the succulent dirt next.
Crochet Succulent Dirt:

With yarn B (brown), leave a long tail for sewing and chain 18. Slip stitch into the first chain to form a circle and chain 1.
Rnd 1: [2sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 2 sts] 6 times, sl st into 1st st to join, ch 1 (24).
Rnd 2: [1sc into each of next 3 sts, 2sc into next st] 6 times, join, ch 1 (30).
Rnd 3: [2sc into next st, 1sc into each of next 4 sts] 6 times, join (36).
Fasten off yarn B and leave a long (~2 ft) tail for sewing.
Crochet Drip Glaze Pot:

Follow the tutorial for the Drip Glaze Pot Cutie companion pattern before continuing to the next steps.
If desired, you may also substitute the drip glaze pot with a Terracotta Pot Cutie—both pot patterns are compatible with all of our Plant Cuties and Flower Cuties!
The terracotta pot pattern, as seen in the photo below, is slightly easier in difficulty than the drip glaze pot and is a great option for crocheters that are not comfortable with mid-round color changing techniques.
The drip glaze pot pattern, however, has a wider base than the Terracotta Pot and is a great option for making your projects less prone to being top-heavy.
Choose whichever pattern works best for you!

Attaching Succulent:
Retrieve your succulent and place the bottom (round 8) over top of the center hole (round 1) of your dirt.
Using the long beginning tail left over from round 1 of the dirt, sew around the entire circumference of the succulent and dirt hole to attach them together.

Optionally, for more room to maneuver your needle, you may sew loosely at first, as seen above.
Then, once you’re finished sewing, go back and tighten each strand individually, in the same sequence as you’ve sewn them.
To finish, secure with a knot to the end tail of the succulent, trim any excess length, and weave in all tails.
