This free crochet flower garland pattern has a difficulty rating of easy.

The finished dimensions of each flower motif are 3.5 inches (height) by 3 inches (width), and each leaf motif is 1.5 inches (height) by 1.5 inches (width).*

The finished length of the example garland is 38 inches wide, but this pattern includes instructions for customizing your garland to any length that you desire!

*Finished dimensions are calculated from a model using medium weight yarn, a size H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook, and the following gauge: 18 sc x 21 rows = 4 inches.

Supplies:

  • Size H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook
  • Medium (4) weight yarn in 3 colors:
    • Yarn A - yellow (example uses Red Heart Super Saver: Saffron)
    • Yarn B - white (example uses Red Heart Super Saver: Soft White)
    • Yarn C - green (example uses Big Twist Value: Forest Green)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers (optional)

Terminology:

This free crochet flower garland pattern uses English (US) terminology:

  • st (sts) = stitch (stitches)
  • ch = chain stitch
  • ch-sp = chain space
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • tr = treble crochet

Please note that this pattern is written so that each crochet stitch abbreviation is attached to a number, such as 1sc, 2sc, etc. This number denotes how many of that stitch is to be worked into the same stitch.

In other words, 1sc = one single crochet, whereas 2sc = two single crochet worked into one stitch, also known as an increase.

Pattern Instructions | Free Crochet Flower Garland

Crochet Flower Motif:

With yarn A (yellow), ch 4, sl st into 1st st to form a ring, ch 2.

Rnd 1: 12dc into ring, sl st into 1st dc to join (12).

Fasten off yarn A and weave in tails.

Join yarn B (white) by inserting your hook into the top of any stitch from round 1. Leaving a short tail for weaving in, pull a loop of yarn B through the stitch and then chain 1.

Round 2 will begin in the same stitch as where you’ve just joined your new color.

Rnd 2: [(1sc, 1dc) into next st, ch 2, (1dc, 1sc) into next st] 6 times, sl st into 1st sc to join (36).

Rnd 3: [7dc into next ch-sp, sl st between next 2 sc] 6 times (48).

Fasten off yarn B and weave in all tails. Set aside for now.

To match the crochet flower garland shown in the example photos, repeat rounds 1 to 3, two more times, for a total of three flower motifs.

However, you may also customize your garland to be longer or shorter by creating more or fewer flower motifs, respectively!

Crochet Flower Leaf:

For a more detailed tutorial of the leaf, feel free to check out our dedicated Mini Crochet Leaf post. Otherwise, continue ahead for the consolidated leaf instructions.

With yarn C (green), chain 8.

Rnd 1: 1dc into 3rd ch from hook, 2tr into next st, 1dc into next st, 1hdc into next st, 1sc into next st, sl st into next st, ch 1, working into other side of ch sts, sl st into next st, 1sc into next st, 1hdc into next st, 1dc into next st, 2tr into next st, 1dc into next st, ch 2, sl st into same st as last dc (20).

Fasten off yarn C and weave in tails. Set aside for now.

Repeat round 1, three more times, for a total of four leaves.

Alternatively, if you’ve customized your garland to have more or fewer than three flower motifs, be sure to make the same number of leaves as flowers, plus one additional leaf.

Attaching Crochet Flower Garland:

With yarn C (green), work row 1 below to attach your crochet flower motifs and leaves into a garland.

When attaching each leaf to the garland, you will be working one single crochet into the center of the broader end of the leaf, in the same space as where you’ve worked your last slip stitch.

Similarly, when attaching each crochet flower motif, you will be working one single crochet into the topmost, or 4th, double crochet of any single petal.

If you plan to use your beginning and end tails to tie up your garland, be sure to leave some tail at the beginning of your work.

Row 1: ch 18, 1sc into next leaf, [ch 18, 1sc into next flower, ch 18, 1sc into next leaf] 3 times, ch 18 (151).

The pattern given above is for the example garland, as seen in photos, which consists of four leaves and three crochet flower motifs alternating across.

To make the garland longer, simply repeat the bracketed sequence in the pattern once more for each additional repetition of leaf and flower you’d like to attach.

You may also lengthen or shorten the distance between leaves and flowers by changing each of the ‘ch 18’ sequences.

Once all of your leaves and crochet flower motifs are attached and your garland reaches your desired length, fasten off yarn C and leave a tail for either tying or sewing.

Finally, you may use your beginning and end tails to tie up your garland, or weave them into your chain for a more finished look. Choose whichever method works best for you!

Hi Sharon! That sounds like a fun idea!

Unfortunately, I don’t have any clothing patterns that use a similar motif that I could offer for you to look at.

I’d recommend searching on YouTube or TikTok for some ideas from other creators!

Great pattern. I recommend a longer chain at each end before the joining first leaf and after the last one.
