In this FAQ for Selling/Sharing, you can find answers to questions like, “Can I sell the finished pieces?” and "How do I download a pattern?" and further information on how our patterns can be used and shared.
Can I sell the finished pieces?
YES! You can sell the finished pieces that you’ve made using any Virkadia pattern! Please just provide a label, caption, or link giving credit to Virkadia as the designer.
We receive so many requests for commissioned pieces that we are not able to fulfill, and instead encourage hopeful buyers to find pieces being sold independently by our readers.
Adding Virkadia as the original designer in the online description of your item can help these buyers search for you and find your listings more easily!
Please note, when selling your finished pieces online, you must use your own photos and item descriptions in your listing! Please, do not copy/paste any text from our patterns or use our photos to promote your own handmade object. Thank you!
How do I download a pattern?
Whether it’s fatigue from seeing ads, or preferring a printed pattern rather than a screen, we understand that the online/ad-supported versions of our patterns are not for everyone.
For those who would prefer a downloadable/printable, ad-free PDF version of a pattern, you can browse our ad-free patterns that are available for purchase in our Etsy shop!
We appreciate your understanding that we strongly discourage readers from downloading or copying our patterns off of our blog, as this prevents us from being compensated for our hard work.
The money we earn from our audience reading directly from our blog helps to cover all of the costs associated with keeping this website running, and supports us so that we are able to continue creating new content for you to enjoy.
We love being able to offer a free-to-read option for our patterns, and are grateful for your support that allows us to keep this website alive and growing—all of which is made possible by our online readership, so thank you!
Can I share Virkadia patterns with others?
Via a link to the blog/shop? Oh yes, please! The pattern itself? Oh please, NO!
The bad actors know who they are—but, let’s break this down further:
Free crochet patterns & paid patterns (for readers):
Free content does not mean free to be used in any way you see fit. All free patterns have the same protections and restrictions as their paid counterparts, as outlined below.
All Virkadia patterns are protected by copyright law, and may NOT—either in part or whole—be shared, published, resold, reproduced (mechanically or electronically), or in any way distributed to any other parties without written permission from the designer.
This includes all written descriptions and instructions, charts, diagrams, and photos. Free content may not be printed, screenshot, copy/pasted, plagiarized, or in any way made accessible outside of our blog. Paid patterns may not be shared to others or resold for your own profit.
Additionally, if you are selling your finished pieces made from our patterns, you must use your own photos and item descriptions!
Roundups & link sharing (for other content creators):
Sharing links and tags to our content and helping spread the word about our crochet patterns is so immensely appreciated and helps us continue to get to create even more content for all of you!
You are welcome to share links to our original content, such as in roundup posts on your own blog or for the benefit of your own social media audience or group.
In this scenario, you have permission to use 1-2 photos (finished project only, not tutorial images) from the pattern to share in your curated content.
However, you MUST clearly credit Virkadia as the designer of the pattern and link to the relevant content on the Virkadia blog in an intuitive/unobscured manner. You may also link to our Etsy shop, but we do prefer links to the blog as the primary source.
Please do not copy/paste any written content directly from the pattern. This includes descriptions, supply and terminology lists, and any part of the pattern itself. Do not share any in-progress photos, diagrams, or charts.
Finished object photos may be included in collages or pins, but please do not remove, crop out, or cover up any Virkadia watermarks. Do not overlay any photos with your own watermark and/or website address (i.e., the pattern should not be able to be mistaken for your own work).
