About Us

In this FAQ for About Us, you can learn more about our blog and shop, such as “What is ‘Virkadia?’” as well as information about our patterns, such as “What skill level are Virkadia patterns?”

What is “Virkadia?”

Virkadia [pronounced: Vurr-kay-dee-uh] is a portmanteau of the words virka (from the Swedish word for crochet) and arcadia (the concept of utopian harmony with nature).

Virkadia is both the name of our crochet pattern shop and blog (learn more about the origins of the blog here), as well as the name for the imaginary world in which all of our crochet creatures live.

What skill level are Virkadia crochet patterns?

All Virkadia crochet patterns are designed with advanced beginner to intermediate-level crocheters in mind. Those who will benefit most from Virkadia crochet patterns are crocheters with a practiced understanding of common stitches (i.e. single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet, etc) and amigurumi techniques (i.e. reading patterns, working in the round, sewing pieces together, etc).

Are patterns available in other languages?

Unfortunately, Virkadia crochet patterns are currently only available in English. We hope to one day be able to support different language versions but sadly do not have the resources to do so at this time.

Why are there so many ads everywhere?

We feel you—advertisements can be annoying! However, they also allow us to provide all of this content for free, at no cost to you!

The revenue generated from these ads pays for our web hosting, production materials, and all of the labor that goes into sustaining a crochet blog.

The time and effort that goes into our content requires full-time work, so the ad revenue is also my primary source of income, allowing me to continue creating new content for you.

If you ever encounter an ad that is inappropriate or offensive, you can report it to the ad management company that we work with by clicking “Report this ad,” in the menu often found next to the ad on the bottom right.

If you would like to read our patterns without advertisements, you can purchase the ad-free, downloadable PDF versions of our patterns in our Etsy shop! Some patterns may not be available yet, but rest assured that we are working on it (see below)!

I want to buy an ad-free, downloadable PDF version of a pattern, but I can’t find it anywhere in the Etsy shop—where is it?

If you don’t see a pattern on Etsy yet, don’t worry, it will be coming!

We appreciate everyone who wants to buy our patterns and we want to make your money worth it! So, we put in a little extra effort into designing the ad-free patterns on Etsy, but that also means it takes a little extra time too.

We are currently working through a considerable backlog, but we will be releasing ad-free versions of all of our patterns as soon as we can!

I don’t crochet but still want to support your business. How can I help?

There are several ways to show your support for Virkadia, even if you don’t crochet! Helping to spread the word about Virkadia to your friends and family, either through word-of-mouth or by interacting with our blog and social media, is invaluable and so immensely appreciated. We hope to offer more products in the future that everyone can enjoy—so visit us here on our blog to stay up-to-date with all the current adventures in Virkadia, and follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, and our Etsy shop!
